Crazy life, 13 months

This past month has probably been the most busy month of my life. Zach is taking an online class on Wednesday evenings, from home. He is muted through most of it, but there is a large chunk of time where he isn't muted, and I do my best to keep Genevieve and Juni as quiet as can be through the end of dinner, bath, and bedtime in our very small house. I did 2+ weeks of training for Jamba Juice at a store 25-60 minutes away (depending on traffic) and was working 5 full shifts/week instead of the normal 3 six hour shifts I work weekly at the Alameda store. All while Zach still needs to get in his 45 hours/week, with no daycare or babysitter for the girls. There just aren't enough hours in the day for 2 full time jobs, plus commute time, while one of us is always at home with the girls. At the same time Juni, then Zach, then Genevieve get sick with a pretty nasty cold/sore throat. I had days of migraines as my hormones tried to return to their normal cycle for the first time since Genevieve was born. Needless to say, it would have been nice to have a grandparent or two around to help these past few weeks.

We made it. Zach did have to take a sick day or two. We ate more take-out than we have in the last 4 years combined. The laundry and dishes piled up. We made it. The girls became a little more irritable as they were sick and also sensing the additional stress and getting less family time than ever before. Papa and I met each other at the door to pass off the crying, tired baby. Days went by where I felt like I didn't even have time to open the blinds. We made it.

I'm thankful Genevieve's MSPI has gotten to the point where I can eat most anything and she is basically unaffected. She can't eat it all herself yet, but it made getting take-out for the rest of us a much easier endeavor. I'm thankful I have such a hard-working and supportive husband who was a trooper through all of it. He did the dishes (he always does those, thank goodness!), the went to the farmers' market, he did lots of laundry, he made great lunches for the girls, he took them to the park, he never complained. I'm thankful Juni is old enough to tell me what she needs. One morning, while I was frantically typing out some things, she said, "Mama, I think we've had enough getting things done for a while, don't you think? I say we close your computer and go cuddle in your bed for a little while." Well, Juni, I think that's the best idea I'd heard that week!! And so we did.

We've reached the end of the tunnel, and even though it's only been a couple of short days, the veil has lifted and we've had pretend picnics out in the backyard, we've been singing and dancing, Juni and I have made dinner together and made leisurely trips to the post office. Although I truly enjoyed my training the productivity I felt, nothing beats this precious time with my quickly growing girls.

Genevieve is already another month older. She is getting more confident in her steps and last night ate MORE than JUNI!! For those of you who don't know, Juni is a good eater, so that is saying a LOT!! I have a suspicion she is beefing up, getting ready to walk! She cut her 9th tooth!! It's on her bottom right; one of the big ones. And it's a doozy, and still giving her some grief. I can feel another boulder trying to push it's way up on her bottom left. Ugh. I'm sure that doesn't feel nice. ...she might have just eaten all those noodles to soothe her gums! :) She loves giving MMMMMuah! kisses and blowing kisses too!

Juni is such a delightful little girl. She loves to be helpful and is currently loving learning sign language and helping me cook. She communicates so well. I'm amazed the conversations she has with Zach and I, the things she remembers, and the conclusions she makes from things she hears. She is ALWAYS listening, and will bring up something 3 weeks later I didn't even know she heard. Her memory is a steel trap!

 walking along the fence outside
the play desk we found on the curb
Juni showing us her big muscles with one of Papa's weights
This is not the first time she's done this, and I'm sure it won't be the last. She climbs into Juni's dresser and pulls everything out of the drawer!

Juni showing us her new coloring skills :)
You can't see super well, but she colored all the food, and then made their mouths messy, of course!
Genevs loves to go to the cupboard and dig out whatever snack she is hungry for.
 1 year check-up
still tall 89th percentile, I think
mid range for head size 50 or 60 something %
and lower range for weight.... 17 or 19th percentile, if I remember correctly
Juni wanted to sit up by her to help her feel safe

 Happy Valentine's Day!
This is her "Ew!" face! :) If she is annoyed or doesn't like something, this is the face we get! Ha! I love it!

Someone found the girl scout cookies!
 offered one to me
and then was more than happy to help herself!

Family walk to the beach at sunset on Valentine's Day!

SO excited to open her Valentine's card!
 Genevieve too!

I read something about the large dot being Mars and the small dot between Mars and the moon being Venus, but I don't know if that's really true. I just saw it, thought it looked incredible, and then read some things quick, but never followed up :)
We would save ourselves hours a day if we could child-proof this house! I hope this phase is short-lived! At this point I don't feel it's worth the time and money, next week I might disagree.

The girl doesn't even really like her face touched for any reason, so trying to get pictures of her teeth is next to impossible.

 hugs!
 sleeping beauty
doing yoga in Juni's chair; why not?!
Genevieve's first sucker! I ate most of it first ;)

And her very own chair!! From Grandma Candy and Grandpa Billy

Zach spied her going through my work bag on the kitchen floor. I tried to get pics from the living room but she spotted me. She took my keys out of the bag, stood up, and was touching them to the door handle "unlocking" it! It was so cute. She is always watching.
 13 months!
The sun has been out to shine this week so Papa took Genevs outside for her picture! It has been SO nice having the doors open!!

oh my heart melts. look at that smile.
 CHEESE!

The "I'm doing something sneaky" face! :)
We had a pretend picnic yesterday so Juni wanted to have a real picnic today with the real versions of her pretend food. We had quite a few... pizza, banana, onion (we didn't actually eat the real onion by itself), lemon (san pelligrino), tea
She helped me make it all!

I have this picture of Juni and I, on our bed, when she was about 4 1/2 months old. I call it our first super successful selfie because we both have this big, real smiles! Well, at 13 months, I'm calling this,
Genevieve and I's first super successful selfie! :) I love it!!

..and the rest of these are pictures from my phone
Juni had been asking for sparkle clothes for WEEKS! When Grandma Susie was here she found her a pink sparkle tutu heart outfit that she begs for nearly daily, and this yellow hello kitty sparkle shirt which she also adores. Her whole mood is just giddy when she gets to wear them! (when they aren't dirty!)
 sister love
I can't refuse this cute face!
One night when Papa had class we took baths early and made cookies and wore masks. We were having SO MUCH FUN!

sweet girl, just awake from nap
getting her Valentine stickers just right!
This girl would dig in dirt all day long if we would let her! She got a little carried away this day!
 Juni wearing her yellow Jams!
Juni and I planted a ton of tulip and daffodil bulbs in planted boxes last year. When Grandma Susie came when Genevieve was first born there were just a few bulbs left over, so Juni and Grandma planted them by the sidewalk out front. None of the bulbs in the planter boxes have sprouted like the ones in the ground!
Juni calls these hippy swings, because you swing with your hips :)
 Good morning bunny and baby!
I'm training myself! The photos they took of me years ago to use in the training books are still being used at different levels of training. So, throughout my training books, and online modules, I was training myself :) After being at Jamba Juice for so long I knew nearly everything involved in my training, but it was still nice to train with a different manager for a couple of weeks and get a fresh perspective.

sister love, Juni helping her put her mask on
This little bunny wanted to eat carrots just like rabbits do!
This night she at two whole carrots for her bedtime snack and she's eaten many since, always with her mask on! :) Too cute!

My baby girl turned 1 on February 3rd

Oh, my sweet little girl, I can't believe a year has come and gone already. I love the way you squish your cheek against mine to show me that you love me, and I love that you've done it just the same way from your day of birth until now. You lean in your head and squeeze so tight when we ask you for hugs and you give those same very sweet hugs to your baby and bunny and Juicy too!

You fit right into our family in your own special way. Your screams are a bit too loud sometimes :) but I'm hoping they'll simmer into words as your vocabulary grows. You are saying more and more words every day. You started with Mama, Papa, "ba" for Juicy, hi, baby, bye-bye and now you've added Juni!!!! (you don't say it often, but it is very clear when you do!), thank you, all done, bite (when you want to eat food, because Mama always asks you if you want a bite!), kitty, meow, and a few more words that come out as clear sounds, but I haven't quite figured them out yet.

You still are tall as tall can be. You love standing up all on your own, just in the middle of the room, while you eat a snack, or look around. If you get tired, you squat down for a minute and then stand right back up. You are still cruising around the furniture and now you enjoy walking while holding our fingers, but only when we stand behind you.

You love to play with your sister and to play outside. If we go outside without you, you stand at the door and yell and bang telling us that you want to come out too. And it is pretty much the same with the shower. If Mama or Papa get in the shower without you, and you are distracted by something super fun, you are heartbroken! You cry and squeal at the door with such sadness.

Juni and you are having more fun than ever. She is patient with you and shares most often. She loves to read to you and teach you new things. Even when you pull her hair on accident, she patiently shows you how to be gentle with her. Your favorite toy is your new wooden train you got for your birthday. You also still really love your baby and your bunny.

I'm so excited for this next year as you are able to use your words to tell us more and more things. I'm eager to learn how your baby personality translates into your toddler personality. I have some suspicions and I'm so excited to watch you learn and grow and to see if I am right or not.

It's been a great year, baby girl. Thank you for a being a part of our family. You were just the right puzzle piece to fit right in.

We went to the zoo for Genevieve's birthday, and it was just the right thing to do. The girls had fun, we had fun, and Grandma Susie was here to have fun with us too!

Juni has LOVED giraffe's for quite some time, and she was SO excited to see them at the zoo. We let our membership expire when we lived in Vallejo, so it had been quite a while since we had been. (I was 6 months pregnant when we moved back to Alameda.)
 Picnic Time!

Grandma Susie got a picture of all four of us together, but I don't have that one at the moment.
Checking out the goats at the petting zoo :)

proud big sister!

Zach and I got Genevieve this bunny comb/brush/mirror set for her birthday. Juni was fixing her up!
Wearing her pretty new necklace from us and playing with her new little animal toys that Juni picked out for her.
And her special birthday dinner with her favorite: tuna melt! and homemade french fries too, but those aren't really her favorite :)
